November Breed of the Month: Yorkshire Terrier

The Yorkshire Terrier was originally founded in England in the mid-1800s as rodent management but has since become one of the most popular lapdogs in the US! Yorkies are members of the toy group, standing only 7-8 inches tall and weighing around 7lbs. They have larger than life personalities, being very energetic and spunky, and at times can be considered quite bossy. They are very affectionate with their family members, which is part of what has made them so popular.

They only need a moderate amount of exercise, which can usually be covered with a daily walk and some indoor play time. This breed is also considered a “low allergy” dog as their long, silky coats are more akin to human hair, than typical dog hair. This coat does require regular grooming to keep it healthy.
