December Breed of The Month: Velveteen Lop

Velveteen Lop Rabbit Laying Down

This medium sized rabbit is a relatively new breed of rabbit that was inspired by the book The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. These rabbits are a mixture of the Mini Rex and the English Lop, and weigh around 4.5lbs with long, floppy ears. The top of their body has a definite arch and dewlaps are allowed in the breed.

Their heads are wedge shaped and their ears sit low on the rabbit’s head. These rabbits have the short and dense coat of the mini rex and require regular brushing to keep it clean and shiny. Their coats also come in a variety of colors and patterns.

Velveteen lops are great rabbits for all levels of rabbit owner, and are generally affectionate and playful, with social personalities. These rabbits can live anywhere from 5 to 11 years relative to their genetics and environments.
